CORE creates wild performance spectacle
in the face of media white-out and the slow disappearance of
hope. Emerging from over ten years of intense activity in the
thriving San Francisco underground performance scene, CORE has
developed a reputation for creating lush beauty amidst fantastic
physical and emotional risk. Cross training in the fields of
dance, performance, music, theater, and literature, we address
questions of cultural survival, self-determination, class, gender,
power and identity. We present the body in relation to the media
state; the body soaked with water, on fire, suspended, tied to
a chair, held down or lifted up, enraged, silly, confused, exhausted,
alone.
WEEKEND
17.+18. Oktober 1998
An introductory weekend to the work
and world of CORE. Each day will begin with a technical movement
class. Following which we will work with contact improvisation,
body music and percussion, improvisation and performance and
the study of character, costume and image. The weekend will be
collaboratively taught by the five members of CORE
ONE WEEK INTNESIV
19.-24. Oktober 1998
This one week intensive will be
a rigorous training in the techniques of performance utilized
by CORE. Each day will be divided into three sections, Technique,
Contact / Partnering, and Performance. Participants need not
be expert in all three disciplines, but willingness to be challenged
is essential. All classes will be team-taught by members of the
company
10-12 Uhr (Mo, Mi, Fr)
Movement Technique
We will inestigate technique, utilizing
momentum and expension in the body and engaging the power of
our centers with lush, athletic and vigourous dancing. We will
use open movement structures as well as formal exercises that
teach the body to move articulately, fly fiercely and fall softly.
Live musical accompaniment by Jules Beckman with the company.
12-14 Uhr (Mo-Fr)
Contact and Partnering
A training using the principles
of Contact Improvisation, Acrobatics, Sport and traditional partnering
skills as metaphors for human interaction on stage. We will work
both with improvisation as performance and through improvisation
to choreographed partnering material
15-18 Uhr (Mo-Fr)
Performance
We will address the body's potential
in terms of movement, sound, image, symbol, container, focuser
and projector of energy, source of entertainment and affector
of real consequences in the world. We will explore costume, character
and our relations to instruments, objects and environments. We
will use writing and improvisation with language and sound. Training
to focus a series of events clearly in space and time we will
create models of the universe around

The workshop will conclude with
performances on Saturday night at DOCK 11 as part of the "Apocalypse
Cabaret" which will feature performances by CORE and perfor-mance
events from the workshop.
