This class takes 3 right turns. By combining dance, yoga/bodywork, improvisation and theater, the class begins by centering the breath with movement, in a yoga influenced dance based warm up, which gradually moves into more physically challenging floor work/improvisation thru space, and is finally followed by explorations of dynamic phrase work. Committing to incorporating the emotionally expressive body, the aim is to refine articulate dancing while simultaneously nurturing individual freedom of artistic/intuitive choice-making. Consciously finding/using space as the supportive partner assists us in driving into states of physical and emotional authenticity. The movement style facilitates the coherence between structure and chaos; physically & emotionally. The aim is to relax while in motion, to get the thinking out of the way so surprising moments can take place.
Jessica Jobaris is a performer, choreographer, and teacher recently relocated to Berlin from Seattle WA, USA. She has performed with renowned Seattle companies Lingo dance theater (2007-2008), Scott/Powell Performance (2002-2007), Maureen Whiting Company (2000-2004), Bryon Carr Performance (NYC, 2001-2002). In Europe, she has studied/worked with Marten Spangberg, Jess Curtis/Maria Scaroni, Felix Ruckert and Kirsten Burger. A teacher of dance, choreography and yoga, she has taught most notably at Velocity Dance Center, Seattle Pacific University, University of Utah, and co-taught with Lingo at Oberlin College, Kenyon College and Ohio State University. She has been awarded several choreographic residencies through Velocity Dance Center, CHAC/Lingo dance theatre and NYC's The Field/Artward Bound at White Oak, Florida and her work has received funding from city, state and corporate sponsors. With long-time collaborator, Luke Allen, she is co-director of CorpusCorpus Movement

My class combines the focus on a powerful center of the body and the articulation of the spine from the Graham technique with the off-balance and swinging work of the Limon technique.
The warm up starts on the floor inspired from Pilates Mat exercices, to tune and warm up the dancer’s body in a pure and effective way. It continues with series of combinations that engage the muscular connections in an organic chronology: warming up of the torso and neck deep muscles, changes of levels in the torso and legs, articulation of the arm and hand, the pelvis, the leg, the foot, increasing amplitude and going from linear to circular movements, stimulation of the gaze by moving through space to finally reach an engagement of the whole body in complex movements that require coordination and a thorough physical awareness.
It is a vocabulary that is both physically challenging and organic. The goal I pursue in my teaching is to give to the dancers the means to become accomplished artists. By this I mean to make them free enough in their technic that they can digest every movement and make it their own, thus making of their body the perfect instrument of expression of their soul.Caroline Bo

mit Michael Löhr
Class Description:
The class developes from plain and pure body-work / work-out exercises, through short floor- and standing combinations into more complex choreographic sequences. Some of the basic principles we will be working with are: finding, stregthening and shifting the center, being on and off balance, resting and exploding into space, taking risks. The class is very physical and energetic but encourages the participants to take decisions in order to find their own way of playing with quality, musicality and dynamics.
Bio:
After finishing his dance studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, Michael Löhr joined Tanztheater Bielefeld, nordwest / Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg and Emanuel Gat Dance. In 2005 he received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute to study at the annual summer academy in Kyoto, Japan. Among others he worked with Rami Be'er, Shlomi Bitton, Ingun Bjørnsgaard, Emanuel Gat, Lionel Hoche, Jan Pusch, Jo Strømgren, Guy Weizman/Roni Haver and Gregor Zöllig. He is currently working as a freelance dancer, choregrapher and teacher in Berlin.

mit Howard KatzThis class takes you through a series of exercises based on the study of physics and human movement.
We break down movement to it's essence; Flow, Throw, Put, Fall, Carry.
We define each of these principals through improvisation and directly apply it to a given technical exercise and to the combination.
We work with the bodies weight and nerve systems: defining where a movement impulse starts and how can we repeat it.
We build a strong and flexible technique that allows us to master any movement challenge with the analytical power of a scientist and the intuition of an animal.
Howard Katz Fireheart was born in New York City, where he completed his education in the classical and modern dance, acting, singing, and martial arts.
Education at the California Institute of the Arts.
From 1982 to 92 he headed his company KOOK in NYC and a studio of the same name.

Since 1996 he has been living in Berlin and NYC, has been working as a solo artist and in cooperation with artists from various countries in interdisciplinary productions.
