Profitraining / Workshop DANCE MAKING IN THE MOMENT
An intermediate/advanced contemporary dance/improvisation/composition training dedicated to exploration, creation and performance of solo or group works, culminating in a performance presentation. Each class includes a technical warm up and various improvisational/compositional structures of dance and dance theater creation.

MANFRED FISCHBECK is the Artistic and Executive Director of Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theater. Originally from Berlin, Germany, he studied literature and theater at the Freie Universitaet and was professionally engaged as an actor in theater and film, before he moved to dance and joined the Modern Dance Company Gruppe Motion Berlin. In 1968 he relocated with Brigitta Herrmann and Hellmut Gottschild, co-founders and co-directors of Group Motion to Philadelphia. Since then, for more that forty years Manfred has been a vital force of the Philadelphia arts community, choreographing, composing, performing, teaching and touring with Group Motion locally, nationally, and internationally. Together with cofounder and co-director Brigitta Herrmann he created and conducts the famous
Group Motion Workshop, held every Friday night at the Group Motion Studio and in week-long retreats at various locations throughout the USA and abroad. Other contributions to contemporary dance include innovative work in the areas of multi media and technology and a variety of collaborations with national and international choreographers and artists in all fields. For over thirty years Manfred serves on the faculty of the University of the Arts, Philadelphia as Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Dance, and as a lecturer in the Theater Arts Department at The University of Pennsylvania. He has received numerous grant awards and fellowships, including funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the US/ Japan Friendship Commission, the Pew Charitable Trusts and other foundations.
LAINA FISCHBECK, born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated with a BFA from University of the Arts as a modern dance major. She was a dancer in Group Motion Dance Company and Ausdruckstanz company for 8 years. She studied Butoh dance with Masaki Iwana and moved to Normandy, France in 1996 to deepen her studies in Butoh with Iwana. In 1998 she moved to Rennes where she has worked intensely with Ladainha dance company as a dancer and an apprentice in Capoeira. In 2003 Fischbeck created DEAD Company (Driving Evolutionary Artistic Dimensions) and has performed and collaborated internationally. Laina’s passion perseveres in the intermelding of art media. She works with video artists,
painters, sculptors, singers, musicians, theatre, and circus performers, etc. For the past 13 years Laina lives in an artistic community called the “Elaboratoire” .Laina gives « Experimental » dance classes and workshops there and internationally. Recently Laina has created the LIVE Company, which consists mostly of her most advanced dance students with whom she organizes a new event in Rennes called Live Dance Festival.
