The Pointe Shoe Experiment
28.-29.10.2019, 10:00-14:30 h
Place: DOCK 11, Kastanienallee 79, 10435 Berlin, Saal 2
Dancers and performers of all genders and technical, performative and artistic backgrounds are welcome to this workshop that focuses on expanding the possibilities of dancing and moving on pointe. Whether you approach this proposal through experimental virtuosity or conceptual and critical thinking, or you just want to have fun trying it out because you have a number in mind, this is a chance to open up the spectrum of what dancing on pointe can bring to your own practice, interests or way of dancing, without aesthetic preconceptions. On the first day we will be dealing with improvisation and technique invention and on the second day more on your personal creativity. This workshop will not avoid ballet references, but it is not its main focus. Rather we will be seeking elements of authentic movement and other hybrid forms that we discover.
After mostly working as an artistic director and curator these past five years, I'm now in a time where I'm returning to things I haven’t done in very a long time. Things that need to be revisited, reinvestigated and dealt with. As part of this process I have returned to the stage as a dancer after a 22 year break. I have embarked on a deep archival project of digitalising and confronting myself with all my 90ies pieces that I haven’t seen since they were created. And now it's time to start digging into the topic of ballet, which I haven’t touched in a real way since the year 2000. This is the beginning of a longer creative project of mine that will branch out with time into various formats.
You will need to have your own pointe shoes for this workshop.
